Joy of pre-cubed tofu, casting crib, Boston Celtics Garnett, Boston Red Sox Gagne, nursing deer, cantus firmus, Iraq haiku, prosecco bubbles

I SPENT TWO HOURS AT RADNOR LAKE YESTERDAY - two hours there is always a great way to live - and saw 12 deer and 11 people. In over 20 years of visiting Radnor Lake, I don't remember the deer ever outnumbering the people. 9 of the deer I saw were trios - a mom deer and two little spotted does. I got to see two little ones walk up the hill near the eastern edge of the South Cove trail, get in position and suck hard for Mom's milk. They were rough and she was constantly having to readjust how she stood. Also, being on the steep side of a hill with the two voracious ones yanking and yanking didn't help. It was amazing how close I got to them. The little ones spotted me but the mother didn't.

I would like to go on and on and describe all of my fantastic interactions with the 3 deer trios and the 3 adult deer but it would take too long, and I am in the midst of too much right now, post-Brevard. (Brevard was excellent - very good fellow faculty and participants. I especially enjoyed mentoring some of the participants on Sunday, and getting to know fellow faculty better.)

I was in an un-decisive way until a few minutes ago - the big question was, what to drink? M & D suggested mojitos, and I need to use up the six limes before I leave, but then I came across a half-finished bottle of prosecco from 10 days ago. I know from college days that shaking old carbonated liquids gets them pondering their old ways and makes them bubble again - return to their wombs, sort of - so I am onto this prosecco and fresh squeezed (but then pasteurized) orange juice. Yes, a nice prelude to one of my finest salads. (I accidentally bought pre-cubed tofu and it is great. I hate prepared foods - I prefer to cut, slice, dice, peel, kick, maim and whatever else it takes to do to my food to eat well, rather than someone else prepare it. But this little mistake did spare me many slices and a lot of work with my sharp Big Ass knife.)

And there's a chick flick on one of my HBO channels - You've Got Mail - playing now. It's got some good things about it, even if it is a CF (not "cantus firmus," but "chick flick"), and the great scenes of Manhattan are always heart warming and great.
They - Hanks and Ryan - even had hot dogs from Grey's Papaya Dogs. Despite knowing better, I love hot dogs, especially on the streets of Manhattan and at Grey's Papaya Dogs. They're almost as good as lamb & chicken halal from 53rd & 6th. Damn it - I miss NYC.

I just learned that the audition location for babies (human babies) for a Hollywood film is called, the "casting crib." Very funny. Babies cannot be on location for more than two hours in one day, and only 15 minutes of the two hours can be used. That fifteen minutes of one hundred twenty minutes is SO UNION.

But to the most important point.... Today is one of the finest days in Boston sports history, the G2 day, or so I'll refer to it. The Boston Celtics got Kevin Garnett (in a simple trade for five players and two first round draft choices!) and the Boston Red Sox got Eric Gagne, the Mad Montrealer and relief pitcher from the Texas Rangers. The Evil Empire - the New York Yankees - had so badly coveted Gagne, their bullpen is one of the very worst in baseball and they needed him badly, while the Red Sox bullpen is by far the best (an unusual thing for us!) and we didn't need him (badly or not badly) but getting Gagne is also an important middle finger gesture to the NYY, it breaks their hearts, and hurts them in their pursuit of great glory.
