I WILL BE SPEAKING in Ohio tomorrow at Bowling Green State University. I am thrilled at the invitation. This along with copyright craziness and workplace frenzy have kept me too busy to blog or notice that I moved from West 51st Street to the neighborhood of quiet.
I am going to place some of my potential notes and links here. This is not for human eyes. I will erase this out when I get back to Nashville Saturday night.

Contemporary classical improvised performance:

Another improvised piano piece with nice sustained chords – I like this one better though because it features two musicians:

Here is Ivo Papasov and his Wedding Band from David Sanborn's "Night Music," the best music television music series. It was too good and eclectic to last.

Here are Varttina, an amazing folk group from Finland. This was recorded at the MIDEM 2006 Festival in France.

YouTube and politics. "Macaca" and the end of the bully junior senator from Virginia, George Allen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r90z0PMnKwI
Here is something frightening but true. The Attorney General of the U. S. wanted to defend the suspension of habeas corpus in the U. S. Habeas corpus has been the most important legal principle since 1215 but under the Bush administration it was considered to be an obstacle in the pursuit of terrorists.
So here we have Gonzales defending this outrageous policy while a prominent Republican Senator and a prominent Democratic senator question him.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HiZdA3A_5gQ&mode=related&search
And at least this Attorney General does not sing unlike John Ashcroft – remember him? He even put clothes on statues yet professed to love freedom. Oh God… Here’s one more assault! But at least it’s the short version from CNN – two minutes rather than five minutes in length...

One more “straight story” on politics, and an Ohio story - this probably helped end Mike DeWine's senate career and and help Sherrod Brown:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=NsvabYhdq7E
That must have something to do with DeWine being gone from the Senate!
Do you want to learn about the three principal forms of IP? I like this - it is something I do frequently just that I’ve not filmed myself for YouTube yet. This is Professor Hughes from the Cardozo Law School in NY:

How about this – how to break the Copyright Law by copying and burning a copyrighted and copy protected DVD….

Or this video on how to use BitTorrent.

Or do you want to know about the Creative Commons? If you are in education or love learning, you must value CC.

Being an American, I love to exercise my first Amendment rights of free speech – the ability to create parodies and watch, read and hear parodies. So, let’s get to some parodies of politicians:
You know Bush and Blair are close. The love Blair had for Clinton got transferred to George Bush when he became President in 2001.

SECOND LIFE
Second Life – the WSJ has a reporter who only covers Second Life, that’s how important they think it is. Companies are launching products in Second Life to see how they might fare in First Life. Architects are building buildings, etc.
Harvard Law & Harvard Extension are offering a course that meets in Second Life. Here is Charlie Nesson on his motorcycle and then giving you the intro to his class that will meet in Second Life.

I SAT IN MY HOT TUB tonight , without its gushing jets (so I could listen to his take on the mess he created in the Middle East), and listened to President Bush's speech. I am sorry that I deprived my tired muscles of vibration in hot water for as long as I did. With about 5 minutes to go, I had heard enough, got up and turned the jets on. The jets roared and drowned out the finale of his utterances of unreality. I knew that the New York Times would probably post the text of the speech before its conclusion, and I could read it now.
________________________________________________________________________________________
The closest Bush came to admitting that he did anything wrong - let alone, an apology or expression of regret or sorrow - was heard in this silly noncommittal sentence:
"Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me."
Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me!
Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me?
With him?
With President Bush?
President Bush is responsible?
WILL THE RESPONSIBILITY ever not just "rest?" By resting, it will likely go to sleep. It will just rest. It will put its feet up. It will get comfortable.
________________________________________________________________________________________
But, now that he brought up the word, "responsibility," how will he be responsible? What price will he pay? As a kid, when I broke windows (always via hitting a home run out my backyard and through a neighbor's window), I took responsibility. I had to pay for the window. It meant working to earn money and mowing more lawns.
I really want to hear what he will do to take responsibility. I expect that he will do nothing and that this was simply one of those cliches one says at a time like this. It was Bush being polite, but trite, empty and dishonest.
________________________________________________________________________________________
THERE ARE WORDS THAT GEORGE BUSH SHOULD HAVE USED tonight but did not. Here are some of the words that George Bush did not say:
________________________________________________________________________________________
CIVIL war
________________________________________________________________________________________
SORRY or SORROW
________________________________________________________________________________________
APOLOGIZE
________________________________________________________________________________________
REGRET
________________________________________________________________________________________
PAIN (as in pain I have caused)
________________________________________________________________________________________
WOUNDED (doesn't he care about the wounded - the innocent Iraqis who did not ask the U. S. to bomb their country, or our soldiers?)
________________________________________________________________________________________
SYMPATHY, sympathize
________________________________________________________________________________________
EMPATHY
________________________________________________________________________________________
HOPE
________________________________________________________________________________________
WRONG (as in, "I was wrong.") I know I've said that a few times this month, and thousands of times in my past.
________________________________________________________________________________________
CONTRITE (contrition)
________________________________________________________________________________________
EVIL !?!?!??!? As much as he has used that powerful word of judgment and damnation, he really has overplayed his card now.
________________________________________________________________________________________
AND, a word that Bush and Fox TV have used frequently and is far worse than simply, EVIL, is.......
LIBERAL
George Bush has failed so badly and there are no Democrats to blame right now.
Sadll for The Decider, he did not get to use EVIL or LIBERAL tonight. But Fox TV will be able to put a great spin on this uplifting speech. They will likely blame the LIBERAL MEDIA if everyone is not on board with Bush's new tragic reckless surge and splurge.
________________________________________________________________________________________
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan.....
I own that hot tub. I paid for that hot tub. Give me that hot tub!
Back to my Waterworld. Not Second Life, not my hot female avatar, just my male-self in my hot tub. I'll crank up the LIBERAL MEDIA and listen to how others are viewing this mess.
Ah, but one final serious thought:
________________________________________________________________________________________
BUSH said:
"Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq."
BUSH REALLY DOES WANT TO WAR SOME MORE. The Axis Of Evil consised of three countries - Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Iraq is over. We lost. Bush knows he can't war with the neighbor of our our favorite Commuist dictatorship, Nort Korea? China won't stand for that and we'll always accomodate China'
It seems obvious to me, from those four sentences, that he is likely to start a war with Iran.

I WILL BE GIVING A TALK THIS MORNING entitled, "YouTube, Podcasts, Blogs and Other Adventures in the Metaverse: How Technology is Changing Higher Education," and thought it would be good to be able to snag some of my ideas, topics, proper nouns and links, for this talk, from today's e-Diarization at my little spot in one of the Tubes of one of the Internets, i.e., www.emichaelharrington.com.
(I am writing this while listening to, and sort of watching, a lecture on evidence by Harvard Law School Professor Charlie Nesson from his excellent website/blog. I wonder if he would call his blog, an e-Diarization?)
Here are the podcasts to which I subscribe. Too bad this won't be displayed in lovely columns. It's hard not to motice that all of them are found at the Apple iTunes store. Apple has done a great job with their store especially in its visual appeal and layout, and content. But I don't want to praise Apple as their Fair Play DRM is not good and should be broken and not respected. I love the Mac but don't trust Apple. Although compared to the PC manufacturers, Apple is saintly.

THE DEMOCRATS have to face reality and cut off funding for Bush's new plan to get even more American
troops in the war we started in Iraq killed.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
I AM BEING A TOURIST in Second Life. Yesterday, when I wasn't watching two New York sports teams lose (a lifelong happy pasttime of mine, a hardcore forever proud Bostonian), I was visiting some lovely Cuban style tropical real estate in Second Life, complete with very good Cuban music. The "son" was cooking and I was as pretty as ever with my bright and tight blue shirt and even tighter jeans. (I am a hot chick in Second Life. Strangely, I am also a bit shy as a woman, and a bit shy as a woman in the metaverse.) More on Second Life in coming days....
_______________________________________________________________________________________
THERE ARE 3,014 dead American soldiers in Iraq.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________________________
There are 3,005 dead Americans and the new catch phrase/slogan is.....
Surge and Dirge
How can any reasonable people still believe George Bush, the Indecisive Decider's, newest facade? We went to Iraq because.........
they were behind 9-11? (No, but 15 of the 19 hijackers were from a Middle Eastern country that does not allow women to vote or even drive - Saudi Arabia)
they had WEAPONS of MASS DISTRACTION/destruction? No, they did not.
Saddam was a bad leader and needed to be "taken out." And in taking him out, we would be "liberating the Iraqi people," and we would be "greeted as liberators." Our troops would be showered with flowers from adoring schoolchildren, and peace, prosperity, happiness, democracy, and most importantly, CHEAP OIL, would flow aplenty.
And there is the famous, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED proclamation (we accomplished that mission - whatever it was - 1,341 days ago).
And STAY THE COURSE... Of course Bush & Snow have been trying to say that they never said STAY THE COURSE. Too bad there is so much proof to the contrary.
And Cheney's prediction that we are witnessing, "the last throes of the insurgency."
And, "WE"LL STAND DOWN WHEN THEY STAND UP."
Now comes "surge and accelerate." This is all the Decider can do is decide on which new slogan to push.
________________________________________________________________________________________
I think it will be Splurge and Dirge. I think Splurge and Dirge is accurate and meaningful.
According to the Encarta Dictionary, a Microsoft product found deep within the bowels of Microsoft Word, "SPLURGE" can mean any or all of the following four:
"to indulge in something extravagant or expensive"
"to spend money in an extravagant or wasteful way"
"a period of indulgence or extravagant spending"
"a showy display of something such as wealth"
________________________________________________________________________________________
DIRGE can mean any or all of the following three:
"a song of mourning or lament, especially one about death or intended for a funeral"
"a song or piece of music that sounds sad or depressing"
"a funeral service that is sung"
________________________________________________________________________________________
If Bush has his way, we'll add 20,000 more troops into the civil war we caused, the war we started without provocation and already lost. Yes, there could be a surge and with this surge, there will be a dirge, one for each dead soldier.
________________________________________________________________________________________
I'M REALLY GLAD TO SEE THAT PAT ROBERTSON is back with his special brand of religious chicanery and devious hysteria.
GOD has now told Pat that there will be a terrorist attack on the U. S. in the second half of 2007.
God seems to only tell Pat the negative stuff - like how he is going to send tsumamis here and there, strike down Ariel Sharon, etc. Surprisingly, God was wrong about having social security reform passed.
I wish Pat Robertson could record God sometime as I have a sneaking suspicion that God looks and sounds like him or him.
________________________________________________________________________________________
OF COURSE I should not be surprised that Bush could not even get the execution of Saddam Hussein right. Bush was not able to enjoy it as it did not matter - Hussein has been powerless since March 2003. The Iraqi people's plight has only worsened, and now our country looks worse for how the thugs hanged the thug. It will surely incite more violence and rally Sunnis in Iraq and throughout the Middle East to more violence and hatred of the U. S., U. K., Israel and any other friends the U. S. might still have.
Even a Pentagon spokesman said today that Saddam was "dignified until the end," and had been courteous to his American jailers, thanked them and bid them goodbye.
BUSH failed again and soon he will ask for more Americans to get killed in order to continue his disgraceful tragedy.
